Explore how to effectively and creatively use video in the classroom by utilizing the power of flip cameras, cameras, and free editing software. In this hands-on workshop, learn how to quickly capture and edit video with Web 2.0 tools. Also, learn techniques for innovative ways of incorporating the video into the curriculum. If you have a flip camera, please bring that with you. There will be some flip cameras available for use if you do not have one. Techniques and strategies learned in this workshop can also be applied to traditional video capture. In addition, please bring your own computer for this session.

During this session we’ll look at the writing and the tools and skills of 21st century learners to share compelling narratives and information in a variety of formats.

Scratch, a new program from the MIT Media Lab lets youth create animations, interactive stories, and games. Learn the basics of programming and creating graphics through your own project. 7. Maximize Professional Development by Creating a Digital Portfolio

Learn strategies for creating a high-quality portfolio that demonstrates ongoing professional development. Specific techniques for reflecting, developing, and showcasing a portfolio will be presented. In addition, the benefits and challenges in using a portfolio as a means of critical reflection will be discussed. This hands-on workshop will give you the opportunity to set-up a wiki and begin developing your own portfolio. By attending this workshop, you will learn Web 2.0 tools and strategies that can be applied with your students in the classroom to demonstrate learning and track progress. Administrators and staff developers are also welcome to attend this workshop to help support teacher professional development.

9. APPLE SESSION - Logging, Capturing, Editing, Compositing: Making the Most of Apple’s Final Cut Pro in K-12 Settings

This one-day informal workshop will introduce the basics of video editing and compositing with Apple’s Final Cut Pro (FCP) software. The workshop will cover basic practices and procedures of video editing with an emphasis on “teaching” Final Cut Pro to K-12 graders. Attendees will be introduced to the FCP interface, logging and capturing shots, timeline editing, titling and special effects, and compositing multiple layers of video and audio. Above all be prepared to have some fun while learning about the industry’s leading editing system! Attendees should bring lots of questions!
